Goodness Farm Soaked, Dried, Sorted & Unpolished Black Sesame Seeds

Traditional Processing • Unpolished • Naturally Nutrient-Rich • Ready to Use

Black sesame has been part of traditional Indian kitchens for generations. At Goodness Farm, we take an additional step before it reaches your kitchen — soaking, drying, sorting and retaining the seeds in their unpolished form.

This is not simply black sesame that has been cleaned and packed. It is sesame that has undergone a thoughtful traditional processing step designed to prepare the seeds while retaining their natural character.

What Makes Our Black Sesame Different?

Soaked

The sesame seeds are soaked in water as part of our processing method.

Dried

After soaking, the seeds are carefully dried before further processing.

Sorted

The dried sesame is sorted to remove unwanted particles and ensure a cleaner, more consistent product.

Unpolished

We do not polish the seeds to make them look unnaturally shiny or uniform.

The natural outer layer stays intact.

Why Black Sesame?

Black sesame seeds are naturally dense in several nutrients and bioactive compounds.

They provide:

  • Plant-based protein
  • Dietary fibre
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorus
  • Healthy unsaturated fats
  • Naturally occurring polyphenols and other antioxidant compounds

Their dark colour comes from naturally occurring pigments and phenolic compounds present in the seed coat.

Why Do We Soak Sesame?

Soaking is a traditional food-processing practice used with many grains, pulses and seeds.

Sesame naturally contains compounds such as phytate, which can bind certain minerals. Soaking, followed by appropriate drying, can alter some of these antinutritional factors.

The extent of this change depends on the soaking conditions and subsequent processing, so we don't make exaggerated claims about "removing" all antinutrients.

Our approach is simple: use thoughtful processing without stripping away what makes the whole seed valuable.

How Can You Use It?

These black sesame seeds are wonderfully versatile.

Use them for:

  • Sesame chutney
  • Idli and dosa podi
  • Sesame rice
  • Ellu urundai
  • Sesame laddoo
  • Chutneys and thuvayal
  • Homemade tahini
  • Salads and grain bowls
  • Sprinkling over dosa, vegetables or porridge
  • Sesame seasoning blends
  • Traditional sweets

You can also lightly roast them before use to bring out their characteristic nutty aroma.

Why Unpolished Matters

Polishing is often done to improve appearance.

But with whole seeds, appearance isn't everything.

We prefer the natural seed with its outer layers intact rather than processing it simply to make it shinier.

That means you may notice natural variation in colour, size and surface appearance.

That's not a flaw. That's the seed as it is.

In Simple Words

We didn't want to make black sesame look better.

Soak. Dry. Sort. Pack.

Simple processing, with respect for the whole seed.
