Mulanur Kuttai Murungai Moringa Leaves Powder

Indigenous Tamil Nadu Moringa | Young Leaf Powder | Carefully Solar-Dried

Not all moringa is simply “moringa.”

Just as India has regional varieties of rice, millets, mangoes and pulses, Moringa oleifera also has locally adapted forms that are closely associated with particular farming landscapes.

Our Moringa Leaves Powder is made from Mulanur Kuttai Murungai, a regional moringa associated with Mulanur in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu — part of one of the state's important moringa-growing belts.

The Tamil Nadu Department of Agricultural Marketing & Agri Business specifically lists Mulanur Kuttai Moringa as a regional crop of Tiruppur district. The name Mulanur Kuttai Murungai has also been filed as a geographical indication application and is currently listed in the pre-examination stage.

This is why we don't simply call this product “Moringa Powder.”

We want you to know which moringa, where it comes from, and how the leaf travelled from the tree to your kitchen.

From the Mulanur Moringa Belt

Mulanur, in the Tiruppur region of Tamil Nadu, has a strong association with moringa cultivation.

The dry agricultural landscape and farming knowledge of this region have made murungai an important crop for local growers. Recent research focusing specifically on Mulanur Murungai also describes Mulanur as an important moringa-producing region and examines the variety's agricultural and economic significance.

For Goodness Farm, this regional identity matters.

We believe indigenous and regional crops deserve to be recognised not only for their nutrient composition, but also for the farmers, geography, climate and cultivation knowledge behind them.

What is Mulanur Kuttai Murungai?

Mulanur Kuttai Murungai is a regional form of Moringa oleifera associated with Mulanur, Tamil Nadu.

The word “Kuttai” is traditionally associated with its comparatively compact or shorter growth habit.

Rather than treating every moringa tree as interchangeable, regional varieties such as Mulanur Kuttai Murungai represent the relationship between plant genetics, local growing conditions and farmer selection over time.

That regional distinction is one of the reasons we chose to work with this variety.

From Tree to Leaf Powder

Our process begins with the young moringa leaves.

1. Young leaves are harvested

Tender leaves are selectively collected from the trees.

Young leaves are preferred for leaf powder because mature stems and leaves can become more fibrous and affect the final texture.

2. The leaves are washed

Freshly harvested leaves are carefully washed to remove field dust and other unwanted material.

3. Solar drying

The cleaned leaves are dried using solar energy under appropriate conditions.

Drying is one of the most important steps in producing a good leaf powder. The objective is to reduce moisture sufficiently for stability while taking care not to unnecessarily compromise the leaf's natural colour, aroma and nutrients.

4. Leaves are separated and cleaned

Once dried, the leaves are separated from unwanted stems and foreign material and carefully cleaned before milling.

5. Pulverised into powder

The dried leaves are then pulverised into a fine powder.

6. Sieved and packed

The powder is sieved to achieve a consistent texture and then packed carefully for storage and use.

The result is a simple ingredient:

Mulanur Kuttai Murungai leaves, carefully processed into a convenient powder.

What Does Moringa Leaf Powder Contain?

Moringa leaves are naturally nutrient-dense and contain a combination of protein, dietary fibre, minerals, carotenoids, vitamins and plant polyphenols.

The nutritional composition of moringa leaves can vary substantially depending on the variety, soil, climate, maturity of the leaf, harvest season and processing method.

Moringa leaves naturally contribute nutrients such as:

  • Plant protein

  • Dietary fibre

  • Calcium

  • Potassium

  • Magnesium

  • Iron

  • Carotenoids, including provitamin A compounds

  • Vitamin K

  • Polyphenols and other naturally occurring phytochemicals

However, the nutrient profile of a dried powder should not be assumed to be identical to that of fresh leaves. Drying concentrates nutrients by removing water, while heat, light, drying duration and storage can influence individual vitamins and phytochemicals.

That is why how the leaf is handled matters as much as the fact that it is moringa.

Why Add Moringa Leaf Powder to Your Pantry?

Moringa powder is an easy way to incorporate the leaf into everyday foods without having to source and cook fresh moringa leaves every day.

Use it as a culinary leaf powder, not as a medicine.

A small amount can be incorporated into:

  • Idli and dosa batter

  • Adai and chilla

  • Chapati or roti dough

  • Porridge

  • Soups

  • Dal

  • Sambar

  • Rasam

  • Vegetable preparations

  • Chutneys

  • Podi

  • Smoothies

  • Buttermilk

  • Homemade savoury mixes

Because moringa has a distinctive vegetal flavour, start with a small quantity and increase according to your preference.

A Simple Way to Use It

For everyday cooking, begin with ½ to 1 teaspoon and adjust according to the recipe and your taste.

You can mix it into:

Dosa batter + Moringa powder
Dal + Moringa powder
Chapati dough + Moringa powder
Soup + Moringa powder
Buttermilk + Moringa powder

It works particularly well in savoury foods where its natural leafy flavour complements spices.

Why We Call It Regional Moringa

The food system we have inherited is full of regional diversity.

A rice variety is not just rice.

A millet is not just millet.

A mango is not just mango.

And moringa is not simply one uniform crop.

Mulanur Kuttai Murungai belongs to a particular agricultural landscape in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu agricultural department recognises Mulanur Kuttai Moringa as a regional crop associated with Tiruppur. Its GI application is currently under examination/pre-examination rather than being a granted GI, which is why we describe it accurately as a regional Mulanur variety rather than a GI-certified product.

That distinction matters to us.

We would rather tell you exactly where a food comes from than give it a generic “superfood” label.

From Tamil Nadu to the World

This season, we are especially proud that our Mulanur Kuttai Murungai Leaf Powder is being exported.

A regional Tamil Nadu crop, grown in its home landscape, carefully processed and now travelling beyond India.

And the same moringa leaf powder is available for you through Goodness Farm.

From the Mulanur moringa belt to your everyday kitchen.

Goodness Farm Approach

At Goodness Farm, we look beyond the final packet.

We ask:

Which variety is it?
Where was it grown?
How was it cultivated?
When was it harvested?
How was it dried?
How was it processed?

Because food is not only about its final nutrition label.

It is also about variety, provenance, farming and processing.
